A product’s packaging plays an important part in influencing the consumer’s buying decision. Not only does it communicate your company’s values, but also sets your brand apart.

Paper board packaging industry offers a host of packaging solutions which makes it difficult to choose the most appropriate one for your product.

The following are some of the paper board packaging solutions available to the market:

1. Paperboard

Paperboard boxes are made from a paper sheet which is lightweight but strong. The sheets are either made from recycled waste paper or the fibrous material in wood. It can be manipulated, cut, and folded into various designs and shapes. There are different grey paper board grades for various packaging requirements.

2.Chipboard packaging

Chipboard packaging material is made from reclaimed paper and therefore, it is extremely cost-effective. Black chipboard comes in various grades. Due to its lightweight nature, it is ideal for packaging items such as tissue boxes, cereals, and so on. It is easily affected by moisture which weakens and discolours it.

3. Rigid boxes

Rigid boxes are mostly used on luxury items such as designer watches, perfumes, and jewellery. The laminated box is made from pressed paper sheets or a chipboard frame that is wrapped with a printed film. Most rigid boxes have an invisible magnetic closure which adds to its appeal.

4.Contour/skin packaging

This type of packaging is perfect for irregularly shaped items. A flexible film is fixed onto a paperboard base. The air around the packaged item is expelled causing the film to cling snugly onto the item. It is commonly used for packaging products or accessories whose cost is significantly low.

5. Foil sealed bags

This packaging type is mostly used in the food and beverage industry as it helps keep the contents dense hence preserving the flavour. It also protects the items from bacteria that could otherwise spoil them and increases their shelf life.

6. Blister packaging

This is an inexpensive, durable and tamper proof packaging type. It is most popular in the pharmaceutical industry where it is used on items such as drugs, ampoules, gels, syringes, and so on. It is also used in the packaging of toys, batteries, and other small consumer goods.

To choose the correct packaging type, you need to consider it cost, durability, compliance with the law, environmental impact, and functionality. Choose a packaging type that reflects your brand identity and use it consistently on all your products.
